2014 Apprentice Recruitment Notice
The Apprentice Program of the Electrical Industry of the I.B.E.W. Local Union No. 3 is accepting applications. The Joint Apprentice Committee will accept registered letters requesting an Apprentice Electrician Application. The Apprentice Recruitment Notice and Apprentice Letter Form are attached below.
On August 12, 2014,the Supervisory Uniformed Unions’ Coalition’s Technical Committee met with the City’s Technical Committee to analyze values and assumptions with regards to the health savings agreement. The City was not forthcoming with enough information to proceed any further at this time.
Here’s the backstory: On June 12, 2014, eight Supervisory Uniformed Unions in police, fire, corrections, and sanitation met and established a Uniformed Supervisory Coalition and agreed to proceed as a coalition for this round of collective bargaining. We began coalition bargaining on July 2nd. The SBA participated in the discussions, but declined to join at this time.The City expressed interest in dealing with a Coalition. The City also previously offered the DEA the same pattern under the teachers’ (UFT) tentative agreement.
UFT RATIFIES AGREEMENT by 77%
The Teachers ratified their contract by 77% of the ballots cast. This now establishes the City’s new baseline for this round of negotiations. The nine-year deal includes the following and expires in 2018: 4%; 4% (with retroactive pay-outs from 2015 to 2020); 0% for 18 months; then 1%; 1%; 1%; 1.5%; 2.5%; and 3%. There was also a $1,000 bonus upon ratification.
MLC HEALTH SAVINGS AGREEMENT –
GENESIS FOR UFT SETTLEMENT & THIS ROUND OF BARGAINING
On May 2, 2014, the Municipal Labor Committee (MLC) membership approved a massive $3.4-billion health care savings agreement with the City of New York, paving the way for the United Federation of Teachers and the City to come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement, which, if passed by the teachers, will reshape the parameters for this round of bargaining. The health savings are virtually painless to the municipal employees.
