Blood Drive for Det. Mike Kelly

Blood Drive for Det. Mike Kelly

Detective Mike Kelly, who retired out of the Street Crime Unit in 2002, is on a list for a liver transplant. He is currently on blood transfusions, and is hoping for donations of both blood and a liver donor.

Livers regenerate, so only a small piece of a liver is needed for a donor. Livers regenerate in both the donor’s body and the recipient’s body. While living donors are preferred, liver donations can come from the living or the recently deceased.

There will be a blood drive in honor of Mike on June 8, 2024, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., at the Franklin P. Curry, Jr. VFW Post #2718 at 68 Lincoln Road in Franklin Square, NY 11552. Details are on the flyer link below. If you cannot make the June 8th event, but have an opportunity to donate blood elsewhere, you can credit Det. Mike Kelly by using his NY Blood Center Code, which is 72385.

We desperately need to refill the blood banks, so that patients like Det. Mike Kelly won’t have to worry that a life-saving transfusion is available.

Any DEA member with questions about a liver transplant or the blood drive, can call retired Detective Mike Kelly at (516) 852-5033, or call his wife Margaret Kelly at (516) 852-7988.

On behalf of the Kelly family, thank you!
