The DEA regrets to announce the passing of Det. Second Grade Richard W. Ware, who passed away on February 19, 2024. He was appointed to the NYPD in 1958 and retired after 34 years of service. He was a Combat Cross recipient, a former DEA Delegate, a member of the NYPD Honor Legion, and a member of the Oceanside Knights of Columbus. Det. Ware and his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary, are the parents of five children (including NYPD Det. Richard Ware and P.O. Michael Ware). They have eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
