Det. Rainey was the brother of the late Officer Richard Rainey from the 113 Precinct who was shot in the line of duty along with LOD Officer John Scarangella on May 1, 1981. Officer Richard Rainey retired as result of his injuries and passed away in 2015 from natural causes.
