The DEA will pay up to $10,000 for the funeral of any active member who passes away, regardless of the cause of death. Unlike Health Benefits, which are paid for by the City, this Active Members’ Funeral Benefit is paid for by the union. The Union now also provides a $5,000 funeral expense for an active member’s spouse or properly registered domestic partner. If the member chooses, the DEA will pay the funeral home and others directly.
