Det. Angel Esquerete was appointed to the force on January 25, 1982, and was promoted to Detective on September 22, 1989. He retired from the force out of the 19 Squad on January 31, 2002. Because of illnesses he contracted as a result of his work on the rescue and recovery from the WTC attacks, he died on August 1, 2022. He was survived by his spouse and four children.
