On October 19, 2013, active Brooklyn South Narcotics Det. Steven Hom passed away from stomach cancer contracted as a result of his work on the rescue and recovery from the attacks on the World Trade Center. His death was declared in the Line of Duty.
Hom was born and raised in Brooklyn and joined the force on July 18, 1996. He was promoted to Detective in November of 2006.
