Detective Second Grade Joseph A.C. Kelly died as a result of a skull fracture he received while responding to a robbery in progress. He was in an unmarked Department vehicle, with the siren on, when the car was struck by another vehicle at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and East 59th Street in Manhattan. Detective Kelly was removed to Flower Hospital where he died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the car crash.
