Detective Borkin and Sergeant Benjamin Cantor were shot and killed while attempting to make an arrest following a robbery at a restaurant on Forsyth Street. One of the suspects was shot and seriously wounded. One suspect was shot and killed. Two others were arrested and sentenced to death. One of the suspects went insane while awaiting execution and the second was executed in March 1928.
Detective Borkin was killed instantly. Sergeant Cantor succumbed to his wounds two weeks later.
The suspect was convicted of the murders and was sentenced to death.
Detective Borkin was assigned to the Detective Division. He was a WWI veteran.
