Det. Ronald E. Higgins was appointed to the force on January 26, 1982. He was promoted to Detective on July 29, 1994. He retired out of the 46 Squad on January 26, 2002. Because of illnesses he contracted as a result of his work on the rescue and recovery from the WTC attacks, he died on June 11, 2022. He was survived by his spouse and three children.
