Contract Ballot in the Mail

Active members of the DEA will receive a contract ballot in the mail in the next few days. This is a vote to amend the current collective bargaining agreement with the City of New York.

Members should read the proposed changes before casting their vote. The proposal contains no givebacks or concessions for our current membership and the DEA recommends members vote YES.

On Monday, July 31st, 2017, the DEA Delegate body unanimously passed the proposed changes and voted to send them to our membership for ratification.

In a nutshell, current members in the salary steps before top pay will receive additional compensation in their steps effective upon ratification.Top pay will remain the same. All members, whether they are at top pay or in the steps, will receive additional longevity compensation if they have between 5 and 15 years as a result of the newly negotiated longevity escalator on steps 5 and 10.Members with 15 years or more will receive the new $1,500 rate for uniform allowance commencing this December. The City purchased the right to outfit uniformed specialists only with a body camera (with the exception of ESU). Future members promoted between now and December 31st, 2017 will remain in 2 years to top pay schedule.

Future members who are promoted after January 1st, 2018 will take 5 years to top pay with the new pay scale being front loaded. They also will have three less vacation days for their first two years.

In the envelope sent to active members, you will find a memo outlining the proposed terms and conditions of the amendment, a salary chart, and a ballot.

To approve or reject the proposed amendments to the current contract, check YES or NO on the ballot, clip it, and return it to the DEA in the enclosed, self-addressed, stamped envelope by the close of business on Monday, August 21, 2017.

Ballots will be counted at the DEA on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.
