Based on statements made on Monday, July 26, 2021, by the Mayor to the press, there remains uncertainty as to what the City’s policy actually will be regarding mandatory vaccinations and/or testing of City employees, and whether this policy would even apply to the Police Department. Rest assured that we are closely monitoring any impending mandate coming from City Hall and will take all appropriate legal actions if necessary.
While the Detectives’ Endowment Association knows all too well the dangers associated with the Coronavirus, every Detective should have the right to choose whether or not he or she receives the vaccination. This is not about politics, but about the personal rights of our members not to be forced in any way into making a decision based on a risk of punishment by the City.
