On July 6, 2020, the DEA sent a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio in staunch opposition to the egregious bill put forth by the New York City Council regarding chokeholds. The bill would put members of the service in legal jeopardy when they are trying to arrest a combative perpetrator who is resisting arrest. The DEA urged the Mayor not to sign the bill.
