On September 9, 2021, the DEA served a demand for bargaining on the NYC Commissioner of Labor, Renee Campion, regarding the NYPD’s new vaccination and testing mandate, which is presently scheduled to be implemented beginning Monday, September 13th, 2021. As we informed the membership earlier, the DEA firmly believes this new policy violates the NYC Collective Bargaining Law for numerous reasons, but, in particular, the policy’s mandate that testing be done on the member’s own time, and the prohibition on DEA members receiving overtime for mandatory testing, is in violation of the Department’s obligation to negotiate with the DEA over this issue.
We are demanding that the Department sit down at the table and negotiate these issues with us rather than unilaterally implementing this policy. Should they fail to do so by the close of business on Friday, September 10th, 2021, we will immediately file an Improper Practice Petition against the Department to protect the rights of all DEA members. We will keep you apprised of any developments as they occur.
