NYPD Rolls Out Vaccine for Qualifying Retirees

The NYPD has been authorized to administer vaccines to Retirees who are over the age of 65, or are WTC Accidental Disability Retirees, or who have underlying medical conditions.

The Police Department has also added the following: any immediate family member (must be residing in the same house as the member) of an active or retired member of the service who is a NYS resident, 65 years of age or over, or who has one or more of the underlying conditions.

Underlying conditions include the following: cancer (current or in remission, including 9/11-related cancers); chronic kidney disease; pulmonary disease, including but not limited to, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma (moderate-to-severe), pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and 9/11 related pulmonary diseases; heart conditions, including but not limited to heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies, or hypertension (high blood pressure); immune-compromised state (weakened immune system) including but not limited to solid organ transplant or from blood or bone marrow transplant, immune deficiencies, HIV, use of corticosteroids, use of other immune weakening medicines, or other causes; severe obesity (BMI 40 kg/m2), obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 kg/m2 or higher but < 40 kg/m2); pregnancy; sickle cell disease or thalassemia; Type 1 or 2 diabetes mellitus; cerebrovascular disease (affects blood vessels and blood supply to the brain); neurologic conditions, including but not limited to Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia; liver disease.

 

The specific underlying conditions are also delineated in the attached Medical Division memo, which we have included along with the NYS Department of Health COVID-19 Immunization Screening and Consent Form (which you will need to submit) and the NYC Certification of Eligibility for COVID-19 Vaccine Due to Medical Condition form (you will need to submit if that is your qualifier). Click on the PDF files below to access these documents so you will be prepared when you show up for a vaccination. Please remember to bring your NYPD Retiree Identification with you (please wear it on your outermost garment), as well as a Valid NYS Driver’s License or Valid NYS governmental identification (such as a NYS non-driver’s license) or you will not be able to receive the vaccine.
