As Detectives continue to be assigned to protest details across the city, we urge members to wear their helmets and any other authorized protective gear. Members should be guided by Patrol Guide Procedure 203-05, which states, “In all supervised situations the ranking member on the scene will determine in the first instance if helmets are to be worn or removed except in emergencies where the member reasonably believes that there is a substantial and specific imminent threat to the safety of the member.”
If any member is directed not to wear protective gear, please get the name and rank of that supervisor and call the DEA immediately so we may intercede. No one should be put at risk of physical injury while performing their duties protecting this City.
