Line-Of-Duty Preparation Reminder

Line-Of-Duty Preparation Reminder

As we all know, we are working in dangerous, unprecedented times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The virus is a silent bullet that puts us all at great risk. It has already tragically taken five hero Detectives from us.

We will never forget hero Detectives:

  • Cedric Dixon
  • Jack Polimeni
  • Raymond Abear
  • Jeffrey Scalf
  • Robert Cardona

We remind every member: If you have tested positive for COVID-19, you must document it.

  • Submit line-of-duty paperwork with witness statements
  • Detail where you contracted the virus while on duty
  • Make detailed memo book entries
  • Make detailed command log entries
  • Request ordinary disability application from the Sick Desk if hospitalized (Article 2 Filing)

It is also important to ensure that all beneficiary designations are correct:

  • Life insurance
  • Pension Section
  • Deferred compensation
  • Life insurance (both voluntary and private)
  • DEA annuity
  • Banked variable supplement (members with more than 20 years of service)

Please ensure all wills, healthcare proxies, and power of attorney are up to date. These important documents can be created free of charge for all members by the DEA attorneys – Karasyk and Moschella, LLP. Please call the DEA office for more information. The DEA continues also to recommend that you document any and all possible exposure to the virus, even if you have not been diagnosed positive.

Take all precautions necessary to safeguard your health and safety. Where your PPE and maintain social distancing

Again, we cannot stress enough how important it is for members to complete and submit Line-of-Duty paperwork regarding COVID-19.

The DEA will always be in your corner, fighting for the rights and safety of every member. In unity there is strength.
