The attack on our brother Detective during an off-duty robbery in The Bronx is a reminder of how quickly violence can strike. Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones as he recovers. The DEA stands firmly by his side, and we won’t stop until those responsible are held accountable—for our brother in blue and all New Yorkers.
Our members confront violence, solve difficult cases, and deliver justice for victims every day. You deserve elected officials who support that work, laws that protect you, and a disciplinary process that treats you fairly.
The Tier 2A victory showed what sustained union advocacy can accomplish. With that reform now law, our attention remains on the next priorities: stronger protections for members, preserving earned benefits, and addressing the conditions that drive experienced Detectives out of the Job.
The “15-foot bill” remains part of that effort. Detectives must be able to do their jobs without harassment, interference, or threats against themselves and their families. We will continue pressing lawmakers for meaningful protections and making clear that public safety depends on supporting the people who provide it.
We will also continue challenging bias in the CCRB process. Every Detective deserves an investigation based on facts and evidence. When that standard is compromised, this union will speak up and defend our members.
Your health remains priorities as well. The DEA’s free preventative wellness physicals bring screenings directly to members, with no copay. Please schedule an appointment and take advantage of them. You spend your careers looking after others; make time to look after yourselves.
Members whose Annuity Fund accounts are transitioning from the Trustee-Directed Plan to Empower’s Self-Directed Plan should watch for the official DEA and Empower notification confirming when account access becomes available. Review those instructions carefully so you can make informed decisions about your retirement savings.
