A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

August 27, 2025

Dear Fellow Detective,

As summer comes to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the recent accomplishments of our union and our continued efforts on other critical challenges. We have achieved this success through your hard work, sacrifice, and dedication to your job and to this city. It is my honor and duty to represent you, alongside the Board of Officers, as we continue to make our message heard.

Pension Enhancements

Ensuring that our members have the decision of retirement on their terms was a major victory and one I am personally proud of. Senior Detectives will now have well-earned financial stability. Decades of service and commitment to the people of New York City will now allow them the financial security they deserve. These enhancements will also help keep our invaluable experience and expertise, which are at the very heart of what this union stands for.

Political Action

The introduction of a Political Action Committee, together with our fellow police unions, is an unprecedented partnership that will ensure City Hall, Albany, and beyond hear loud and clear the voice of detectives. “Back the Blue” must be more than just a slogan or bumper sticker. This united front will give us the resources and political influence to further stand up for our members and for public safety.

Staffing & Promotion

We have made it clear that staffing is not just a labor issue, but a public safety issue. Detectives cannot continue to shoulder increased workloads. The critical need for more staffing and promotions is a message that is articulated to the NYPD and city leadership at every opportunity. We will not back down on this issue. Our voice will be heard.

CCRB & Bail Reform

We remain on the front lines of the fight to reform both the Civilian Complaint Review Board and New York’s broken bail reform laws. The CCRB has too often been weaponized against our members. The majority of these cases are won in our favor at trial. We will continue to fight for fair intake and process for our detectives.

Bail reform, as tragically illustrated by recent incidents, continues to release repeat offenders back onto our streets. This endangers both our members and the public. This is a fight we cannot and will not abandon.

Union Store with Online Access

Another area of progress has been on the home front. Our union store has introduced an exciting line of new merchandise. The new additions reflect our pride in the gold shield. Now, for the first time, you can purchase these items online — a small but meaningful step, allowing easier access for you and your families.

Our work is far from done. We will continue to move forward with strength, unity, and determination. These achievements belong to you. They are a testament to what can be accomplished when we stand together and refuse to be silenced.

On behalf of the DEA’s Executive Board, thank you for your sacrifice and trust. We will continue to protect “The Greatest Detectives in the World” and ensure our message is clear, your rights are defended, and your future is secure.

Remember, it’s all about the membership.
