The COVID-19 bill was first extended until February 22, 2021, and then a new State bill was proposed which would extend the deadline to December 31, 2022. The bill passed the Assembly and the Senate and the Governor signed the new bill. The DEA sent a Memo of Support. This bill ensures that any first responder who dies from COVID-19 is considered a death in the line of duty, and his or her family will be entitled to line of duty death benefits.
