DCPI Is Producing a 9/11 Health Documentary

DCPI Is Producing a 9/11 Health Documentary

The NYPD is currently in pre-production on a documentary dealing with the long-term health ramifications from exposure to the toxic environment at Ground Zero and the surrounding area of lower Manhattan, as well as the Freshkills Landfill and the Morgue, created by the destruction of the twin towers of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

On the day of the attacks, the DEA lost two members in the line of duty — ESU Det. Joseph Vigiano and Bomb Squad Det. Claude (Dan) Richards. However, since that time, we have lost 85 members to cancer and other illnesses officially declared “in the line of duty” from the work those members performed during the rescue and recovery efforts; and we have another 20 deceased members whose deaths are pending Medical Division and Pension Section certification as officially LOD.

The Police Department would candidly and comprehensively like to tackle the health crisis created by the 9/11 attacks, so click on the link below to read the description of their planned documentary; and reach out to the DCPI producers mentioned on the flyer if you wish to share your own story of resilience, sorrow, recovery, perseverance, illness, and survival. We all have stories to tell as the aftershocks of 9/11 still reverberate throughout the first responder community.
