Health Screening Benefit Program From Northwell Direct
Take advantage of the DEA health screening benefit program through Verrazano Imaging at Northwell Health’s Staten Island University Hospital.
This health screening benefit program is for all active and retired DEA members. It is particularly important for Detectives who worked on the rescue and recovery after 9/11, including at Ground Zero, Fresh Kills Landfill, and the Morgue. These services are offered as a benefit to all our members, from both new promotees to longtime retirees, and do not require a doctor’s prescription.
What is the Benefit?
Through a partnership with Northwell Direct, all active and retired DEA members who are covered by the DEA Health Benefit Funds will be eligible for a heart scan with calcium score and CT chest scan at Northwell Health’s Staten Island University Hospital. This scan can assist in identifying signs of heart disease and yield important information regarding the health of your lungs, liver, pancreas, and additional structures in the upper abdomen. The Northwell Direct and DEA partnership has performed hundreds of scans over the past three years and is proud to serve Benefit members.
This scan takes under 15 minutes and was chosen to help minimize the risk of radiation exposure. Northwell Health radiologists will review the scan and one of our providers will reach out to you directly if there are abnormal results. Northwell Health will also partner with you to coordinate care with one of our providers if follow-up is needed.
The price for the heart scan with calcium score and CT chest scan is $375. $200 of this cost will be paid for by the DEA’s Health Benefits Funds. The balance of $175 is to be paid by the member directly to Northwell at the time of the exam.
Please note that all active and retired members are only eligible for a health screening scan benefit every five (5) years. If you were covered for a health screening scan benefit through one of our other providers during the last five (5) years, you will not be eligible for this new benefit through Northwell Direct until five (5) years have passed since your last scan.
Test Results
Test results are mailed to the patient within seven (7) business days of the scan. Any patients who have abnormal results will receive a phone call from one of our providers. If you wish to have a copy of the test results mailed to your provider, please let us know while scheduling and we can provide the appropriate medical release forms. This must be requested in advance of your test.
