The Governor’s attempts to impose legislatively an Independent Monitor in the budget process failed, but we expect this to be revisited during the regular session of the legislature.
Here’s the back story: On February 4, the DEA testified at the State Senate committee hearings at 250 Broadway in the City. President Palladino’s testimony centered around our opposition to the appointment of an independent monitor for police Grand Juries and a request for funding to increase the overall headcount of the NYPD. The DEA also discussed in its testimony the need for District Attorneys to take a serious approach to the issue of resisting arrest and compel DAs to prosecute fully those suspects who resist, which was the underlying issue in the Staten Island and Ferguson,Missouri cases. The PBA and the SBA also testified before the Senate.
