Press Stories Continue to Air About the Caccavale Family

DEA members have been inquiring about the recent news story regarding the memorial sweatshirts created by the Caccavale family to honor New York City Transit Police Detective George Caccavale, who was shot and killed in the line of duty during a robbery on June 26, 1976.

Because the sweatshirts carry a police “thin blue line” flag, the Pelham School District in New York, where the Caccavale grandchildren go to school, had issued a ban on the sweatshirts. School District Chair, Dr. Cheryl Champ, deemed the police flag “threatening” to the students. The DEA sent a strongly worded letter of opposition to her statement. The story about the sweatshirt ban and our DEA letter of opposition was carried in various, local news outlets, but also reached all the way across the ocean to news outlets in England and France.

Additional stories about the Caccavale sweatshirts and the Pelham ban aired tonight, November 16, 2020, on News 12, Westchester, New York during the 5:00 p.m. hour EST, on WNBC-TV Channel 4 during the 6:00 p.m. hour EST, and stories will air tomorrow morning, November 17, 2020, on Fox & Friends at 7:25 a.m., and tomorrow night, November 17, 2020, on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” during the 10:00 p.m. hour EST.
