Re: The Assassination of P.O. Miosotis Familia, 46th Precinct
As you are already aware, Police Officer Miosotis Familia of the 46th Precinct was assassinated early this morning while in the performance of her duty. Her senseless killing is heartbreaking as she leaves behind three children. Officer Familia had a reputation that preceded her as a hard working officer, a wonderful mother, and a wonderful, caring person.
The reason, as well as the way she was killed, is very disturbing as it parallels what occurred to Police Officers Wen Jian Liu and Rafael Ramos. Hopefully, this is an isolated event. However, as we have experienced in the past, an incident such as this could spark and encourage copy-cat events. As a result, I ask you to use extreme caution when you are in the street performing your lawful duties. Make sure you wear your bullet-resistant vest. Please be cognizant of all those around you and avoid being distracted by the use of cell phones and other devices.
On behalf of all DEA members, I relayed our condolences to PBA President Patrick Lynch and pledged our support to the family of Police Officer Familia and the 46th Precinct.
