The Detectives’ Endowment Association, which last month threatened legal action against people who put Detectives at risk of contracting the coronavirus, also called on the city to scale back police’s enforcement of social-distancing decrees. In a statement issued May 8, the union said officials had sent “mixed messages that cause more confusion than clarity” with regard to enforcement.
“During these unprecedented times in New York City, our elected officials should be more unified and supportive of the police that ever instead of worried about their own political agendas and scapegoating cops who they instructed to enforce these regulations,” the DEA’s president, Paul DiGiacomo, said in the statement.
