Keep the Killer of Kelly Ann Tinyes in Prison for Life!

In 1989, Kelly Ann Tinyes of Valley Stream, NY — the 13-year-old cousin of active JTTF Det. Richard Patrick Schell — was brutally sexually assaulted, murdered, and mutilated. Her body was discovered by Nassau County Police the day afterward in the basement of the killer’s home. There is no question regarding the guilt of the murderer.

Help the family and the DEA keep the killer Robert Golub, DIN #90A8024, in prison for life. Send a letter in opposition to parole to Ms. Elizabeth Buechele, Supervising Offender Rehabilitation Coordinator, Fishkill Correctional Facility, 18 Strack Drive, Beacon, NY 12508  (email [email protected]no later than November 1, 2023. Re: Robert Golub, DIN #90A8024

Dear Ms. Buechele and Members of the NYS Parole Board:

I understand that inmate Robert Golub, DIN #90A8024, will be seeking parole this November 2023, and I request that Golub’s parole application be denied.

Golub is serving time at Fishkill Correctional Facility for the horrific and barbaric,1989, sexual assault, murder, and mutilation of 13-year-old Kelly Ann Tinyes.

On Friday, March 3, 1989, in Valley Stream, New York, Kelly Ann Tinyes — an eighth-grader at the Woodmere Middle School — was baby-sitting after school for her eight-year-old brother Ritchie, a third grader in elementary school. It was two days before Kelly Ann’s 14th birthday.

At approximately 2:51 p.m., Richie took a phone call from a 14-year-old neighbor named John Jay Golub. The ninth grader at Hewlett High School asked to speak to Kelly Ann. The Golub family lived five houses away from the Tinyes family. John Golub said he had a birthday present for Kelly. Witnesses in the neighborhood said they saw Kelly enter the Golub home around 3:15 p.m. There were four people who were in the Golub home on that day and at the time: Robert Golub, John Jay Golub, and two other ninth graders at Hewlett High School, Steve Bataan and Glen McMahon. When Kelly went into the Golub home it was the last time anyone else saw Kelly Ann Tinyes alive.

On March 4, 1989, Nassau County police found the nude, lifeless, dissected body of Kelly Ann Tinyes stuffed inside of a blood-soaked sleeping bag in a small storage space in the Golub family’s trash-filled basement. Kelly had been stripped naked, sexually assaulted, savagely beaten for at least twenty minutes with a baseball bat, and severely mutilated, presumably after death. She had been strangled with her own bra. Clumps of hair had been torn from her scalp. Bite marks were on her neck and buttocks. Her torso was slashed opened and her throat was slit. There was a 19-inch World War I bayonet found in the sleeping bag with her body. She was stuffed into a trash covered closet. Her bloody clothes were stuffed into three attaché cases also surrounded by garbage.

Anyone can imagine the shock waves sent through this quiet and hitherto friendly, suburban neighborhood. The Golub family spent the entire arrest, trial, and sentencing process in deranged denial of what their despicable and monstrous children had done.

On April 7, 1990, Robert Golub — an emotionless, 22-year old, unemployed body builder — was found guilty of second-degree murder of Kelly Ann Tinyes. More than 200 pieces of evidence were introduced at trial, including a bloody palm print, fingerprints, bite mark evidence, and irrefutable DNA blood evidence. Robert Golub was sentenced to 25 years-to-life in prison. In handing down the severest sentence allowed, Judge Marvin Goodman expressed regret that he could not impose an even harsher penalty.

“Unfortunately, the sentence options given to me by law fall short of the sentence which you truly deserve,” the Judge told Golub. “The acts which you committed in this case are, by far, the most atrocious that I have ever experienced in my 17 years as a Judge. And the manner in which you killed Kelly Tinyes and mutilated her body surpasses the worst murder known to this country. No dictionary contains sufficient words to describe the brutality of your acts,” said Judge Goodman. The Judge also said he would have recommended that no parole ever be granted, but that was not available by law at the time of sentencing.

Robert Golub is currently incarcerated at Fishkill Correctional Facility and is up for parole in November 2023. After more than 20 years of living in cowardly denial, we heard that Robert Golub finally admitted to the Parole Board that he killed Kelly Ann Tinyes, claiming her death was “accidental.” What a vile and despicable lie. It is not “accidental” that a 13-year-old girl was savagely beaten with a baseball bat. It is not “accidental” that she was mutilated with a bayonet or hunting knife after death. It was not “accidental” that her body was sexually violated. It was not “accidental” that her naked body was stuffed into a closet like the other piles of trash in the Golub family basement. It is not “accidental” that Robert Golub continued to lie for the past 20 years.

As far as I am concerned, Robert Golub lost his right to freedom the day he decided to rape, kill, and mutilate a loving child who was a friendly neighbor, a daughter, a sister, a cousin, a student, and a beloved, hardworking teenager about to celebrate her 14th birthday. Kelly Ann Tinyes — so popular that her friends were planning a surprise birthday party for her — was denied her life because of the warped, sick, selfish, animal appetites of a lazy, slovenly, degenerate monster.

I urge the Parole Division of the State of New York to deny the parole petition of this ruthless killer. It is the obligation of the State to keep society safe, and I believe that Robert Golub, a murderous, sexual deviant — which is a criminal nature that cannot be cured or corrected — belongs in prison for life.

Thank you for considering my position.

Sincerely,
