An Update on the Meeting with the Police Commissioner
On February 5th, representatives of the five police unions met with the Police Commissioner and his executive staff to discuss several issues such as bullet-proof vests, lawsuits and indemnification, discipline, and Deptartment auto GPS systems.
Here’s the backstory: The DEA, along with the Presidents and Vice Presidents of the other four Police Unions (the PBA, SBA, LBA and CEA), met with the Police Commissioner at Police Headquarters on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 7th. Unlike the first meeting, the Mayor was not in attendance. For two hours, the discussion centered chiefly around the arrest and summons activity of the patrol force, as well as the overall safety of the members of the service, especially in light of Monday night’s January 5th shooting of two 46 Precinct Anti-Crime Officers. The Unions and the Department agreed to explore some morale building ideas, however, no resolutions were reached at this time.
Here’s the backstory: In unity with the four other Police Unions (PBA, SBA, LBA, and CEA), the DEA met with the Mayor and the Police Commissioner at the new Police Academy in Queenson Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Our purpose was to have productive dialogue about the respect for, and the safety of, the members of the NYPD. Over a two-hour period, we brought forward any and all issues concerning our members to the Mayor with no definite resolution, most likely due to some ideological and philosophical differences between the Union leaders and City Hall. Ultimately, actions will speak louder than words. Only time will tell. We did agree to continue similar discussions in the near future.
