Scott Munro was appointed to the force in 1992. First assigned to the 77 Precinct, he eventually moved from the Brooklyn North Task Force to the Brooklyn North Auto Larceny Unit. In 1995, Scott landed in the OCCB’s Auto Crime Unit, where, in 1997, he earned his gold shield. He earned Second Grade in December of 2000, and First Grade in December 2001. Among Scott’s political accomplishments is his testimony before the New York City Charter Revision Committee and the New York City Conflict of Interest Board in 2004, in order to convince the legislators to pass NYS Senate bill 6516, which they did. This bill allows for members of the service to hold other positions in New York State, such as a local Fire Commissioner or serve on a local Community Board, or hold another position of public trust. The bill was named in honor of the late Det. Second Grade Joseph Vigiano, who was killed in the line of duty on September 11, 2001. Scott also serves as a Commissioner and the Chairman of the Board of the Hauppauge Fire District, a Fire Department he’s been involved with for more than 25 years. Scott began his NYPD union involvement once elected DEA Delegate from Auto Crime in September of 2005. After being named “Delegate of the Year” by the Queens Detectives Club in November 2010, Scott was elected DEA Queens Welfare Officer in 2012. He became a fully-released union Officer in May 2016. In May 2018, Scott was elected DEA Sergeant at Arms. He became DEA Secretary in August 2021, and the DEA Vice President in October of 2023, until being elected President in 2024. Scott is prepared to do everything in his power to ensure our 21,000 members receive the benefits, and labor and legal protections, they so richly deserve.
