Safety and Security Coordinator Needed for Manhattan Private School

Integrated Security Services is looking to hire a retired Law Enforcement Officer for a Safety and Security Coordinator position at a private school in Manhattan. This position assists in all facets of implementing and improving the School’s robust safety program.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with relevant leadership experience regarding best practices on school safety, de-escalation techniques, security technology and establishing relationships with constituents and local law enforcement. The Safety and Security Coordinator will work under the general direction of the Director of Facilities and closely with the Security Manager to safeguard collaboratively all members of the community, whether on school premises or school-related off-site events.

Responsibilities include the following: overseeing and directly managing the school’s emergency response plans on a continuous basis; incorporating up-to-date best practices along with input from the school community; leading the safety team and overseeing crisis management procedures and training, including the administration of active threat, severe weather, and fire drills. The position will coordinate internally with academic divisions in the administration of safety drills, in accordance with NYS law and school needs, and will coordinate and lead training sessions to multiple audiences on drills: including fire response, active shooter/emergency, shelter in place and lockdown/lockout. The position also handles reporting and documenting security-related incidents, and direct investigations as needed. In concert with the Director of Facilities and IT Department, the position also maintains the building’s security and access control infrastructure and makes recommendations for improvements. The candidate is also expected to build relationships with, and collaborate with, local precinct and other law enforcement agencies, and work closely with other private schools and community partners on best practices and matters related to school safety.

Qualifications include the ability to maintain a calm, positive attitude under difficult circumstances while also enforcing policy. Candidate needs a strong understanding and experience with fire codes, security best practices, especially within a school setting, and must have practical experience with security technology and equipment, such as IP cameras, alarm systems and access control software. Candidate must have the ability to present oral and written communications, have proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to different constituent groups. A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and/or equivalent industry certifications (i.e. APP, CPP, PSP and PCI) are a plus. Nationally recognized Security Industry certifications are a plus.

Estimated annual compensation is $103,600. Compensation is $45 per hour, more than 40 hours per week will be paid at overtime rate of $67.50 per hour. Other benefits include two weeks annual paid vacation and three weeks annual paid leave (designated school closure December holidays and spring or winter break). There are nine paid holidays (New Year’s Day, MLK Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day). There is one-week annual paid sick time (or more as determined by NYS/NYC laws).
