The DEA regrets to announce the passing of retired Det. Alan Berkowitz. Berkowitz became a New York City Transit Police Trainee in December 1971, and a Transit Police Officer in May of 1974. He was promoted to Detective in December of 1981, and retired from Transit Major Case Unit on April 24, 1986. Berkowitz was the past president of the Broward 10-13 Club, and was known as the “go to guy” for retirees who needed assistance navigating the medical systems, Medicare, Medicare reimbursement, HR 218, and other issues of importance. He also worked briefly for the Broward County Sheriffs’ Office as the assistant to the Sheriff.

His funeral will be Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 3:45 p.m. at the Star Of David Memorial Gardens and Funeral Chapel at 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068. Attendees will be given information on a later gathering while at the funeral.

Retired Det. Alan Berkowitz will be greatly missed by all his friends and colleagues in law enforcement.
