The DEA regrets to announce the passing of retired Detective First Grade Frank V. Agoglia, who passed away at the age of 101 on May 6, 2025.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on December 2, 1923, Agoglia proudly served in the United States Military during WWII. A mere teenager when America entered the War, Agoglia became a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and served during the Battle of Normandy. He received two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, and the French Freedom Medal.
Agoglia joined the NYPD after the War on December 19, 1947. He was promoted to Detective on July 23, 1955. He earned second grade on March 24, 1961, and first grade on May 28, 1971.
Throughout his distinguished career in the military and law enforcement, Frank exhibited unwavering commitment and courage, earning respect among colleagues and community alike. His deep sense of duty and honor was put to the test during the very high-crime, post-war years, and he met every challenge with unwavering dedication to keeping the streets of New York City safe. After 33 years on the force, he retired on August 5, 1980, out of the Office of the Chief of Detectives’ Career Criminal Investigation Unit.
Det. Agoglia is survived by four devoted children, nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all those who knew him, reminding all of the values of bravery, compassion, and familial bonds that he embodied throughout his remarkably long and rich life. He will be deeply missed.
