Det. Myron Parker, who was killed in the line of duty on August 20, 1987, will be honored with a street renaming and ceremony on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 12:00 noon at 103rd Street and 34th Avenue in North Corona, Queens, NY 11368.
P.O. Myron Parker was killed by a drunk driver who had struck his brother’s car, which was in front of Parker’s car, on the Major Deegan Expressway. All three cars stopped after the incident, but when off-duty Officer Parker attempted to take police action by investigating the car crash, the driver accelerated and drove into Parker, whose body was flipped over the concrete barrier and struck by a fourth car. He died a short time later at the hospital. The perpetrator fled the scene, but was captured when he crashed into yet another vehicle. Officer Parker was promoted to Detective posthumously by Police Commissioner Benjamin Ward.
Det. Parker was 26 years old. He had joined the force January 25, 1982, and was assigned to Narcotics Borough Bronx at the time of his death.
