We have new concerns regarding 50-a and its database of NYPD Officers. A facial recognition search engine has been added to the 50-a website. This is of serious concern with regards to identifying Undercovers and/or members of the service when they are off-duty, etc. DEA President Scott Munro spoke with the Governor’s office about this dangerous addition. We have also been made aware that there are mistakes on some members’ 50-a.org profiles. In one instance, a member was reported in error as being on a District Attorney’s “do not testify” list. We were able to get the District Attorney’s assistance in contacting the administrators at 50-a, and having that erroneous information removed. We are sure there are other mistakes on their site. The DEA is therefore going to be sending an email to our entire membership asking them to examine their profiles on 50-a and report any mistakes to the union, so that we may take corrective action up to and including filing a civil lawsuit against 50-a.org. We appreciate the Delegates’ assistance in ensuring our members do this.
