The DEA is calling on the Governor to appoint a special prosecutor to handle firearms related cases. We are also calling on the Mayor to help this get done. The NYPD made nearly 4,500 arrests in 2021 for gun-related charges, but only 17% of those arrested were actually convicted of any crime, and most of them plea-bargained to a lesser crime. Almost half of those arrested are still unresolved cases. So, violent felons continue to wreak havoc on our streets and put our members and all MOS in danger.
