Message From the DEA President About Reporting Sick

Message From the DEA President About Reporting Sick

As we all know, members are working during an extremely stressful, dangerous time in New York City. The top priority of the DEA is the health and well-being of every Detective. We will continue to make members aware of new policies and procedures pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic as they emerge.

If a member does come in prolonged contact with a person infected with COVID-19 or person suspected to be infected — on or off-duty — the member should take precautions such as washing hands with soap and water and launder clothes as soon as possible. The member should then contact the sick desk by telephone, where his or her circumstances will be reviewed to determine the next steps. If a member is symptomatic with a fever, a cough, or shortness of breath, he or she will be instructed to stay home and the sick desk will determine if testing is necessary.

First responder COVID-19 testing locations require a member to be directed to the location by the sick desk or a personal doctor.  If a member needs to report sick for reasons other than COVID-19, he or she should contact the sick desk by telephone first and be guided by personnel assigned to the Medical Division.

If any member has concerns while reporting sick or returning from sick, please contact your Delegate or the DEA office.

Take all precautions necessary to safeguard your health and safety. Please also make the health of your family and loved ones a priority.

The DEA will always be in your corner, fighting for the your rights and safety. In unity there is strength.

Fraternally, Paul DiGiacomo, President and the DEA Board
