On February 19, 2021, there was an online conference call with police unions from across the State, as well as elected Officials, to initiate some dialogue with Senate and Assembly members to make inroads for their support of law enforcement. Also discussed was the initiation of a Statewide public relations campaign called “We Need Police” — a slogan that can be adapted to individual cities, boroughs, neighborhoods, etc. (i.e. “Red Hook Needs Police”) to garner support. Discussion included promotional items such as magnets, ads, posters for shop windows, and enlisting civilians, shop keepers, precinct council, and community organizations. The DEA will enlist the help of Delegates, members, and others to promote this campaign. More information will follow.
Here’s the backstory: On February 5th, there was a meeting of police union heads from across the State as the political problems we are experiencing in the City are extending throughout New York. The Democrats have a “super majority” in the State Senate.
