Upcoming Primary for Mayor — Registration Deadline is February 14, 2021

Upcoming Primary for Mayor — Registration Deadline is February 14, 2021

As we move forward in 2021, law enforcement is facing its most difficult time on a City and State level. New York’s leaders have turned their backs on the police, law and order, and the public. Ill-advised “reforms” have been enacted to expand the rights of violent criminals and endanger those of us who fight crime. These dangerous reforms — including the Diaphragm Compression bill and the repeal of 50-a — paired with anti-police rhetoric being chanted in our streets, is quickly unraveling the successful crime declines that have been won by the hard work of New York City’s Detectives and our fellow NYPD Officers over the past three decades.

But, in a City such as ours, where the next Mayor is all but guaranteed to be a Democrat, many voters are switching their party affiliation in order to qualify to vote in the next Democratic primary, and thus add a sensible voice on the selection of a candidate who supports police, law and order, crime victims, and quality of life.

Therefore, the DEA encourages every Detective, both active and retired, as well as family, friends, and colleagues, to register to vote; and if possible, enroll in the Democratic Party. If you are currently registered to vote, the deadline to switch party affiliation to be eligible to vote in the 2021 primary election is coming up soon: February 14, 2021. If you are not currently registered to vote at all, the deadline to register and enroll in a party is May 28, 2021. The actual primary election will be June 22, 2021. The general election will be held November 2, 2021.

Please help us get the proper candidate elected. If you are not registered yet, you can do so online in New York by going to the website of the Department of Motor Vehicles:

The voter registration form should also be used to change your party enrollment from one political party to another, or to enroll for the first time in a party. A change of enrollment received up until February 14, 2021, will be effective immediately:

We will be closely following this primary, vetting the candidates, and working to elect a candidate favorable to both law enforcement and organized labor. We will keep you apprised of the process as it unfolds in New York City.
