RE:  Angel Maldonado (DIN #88A0426)

Dear Ms. Henderson:

I request that parole consideration for the above-mentioned prisoner be denied.

On January 23, 1987, off-duty NYPD Police Officer Michael Reidy was returning home to his apartment on University Avenue in The Bronx, having just cashed his paycheck. He was confronted in the stairwell of his building by Angel Maldonado, who tried to rob him. Reidy struggled with the subject and tried to place him under arrest, but was shot several times, including mortally through the heart.

Maldonado fled, but was arrested three days later, tried, and convicted of Reidy’s murder. Officer Reidy was only 26 years old and had been on the force for less than one year. He was assigned to the 41st Precinct in The Bronx. He left behind a grieving family and devastated colleagues.

Now Maldonado is seeking parole. His hearing date is fast approaching.

Angel Maldonado lost his right to freedom the day he decided to rob a young man of his hard-earned paycheck, and then opened fire on a New York City Police Officer. Let justice be served by keeping this dangerous, hot-headed perpetrator where he belongs: in prison for life. Thank you for considering my position.

Sincerely,
