Officers with at least one year of law enforcement experience do not have to complete the physical or written entrance exam. For those without one year of law enforcement experience, the physical and written entrance exam can be conducted in New York. And, the interview board may be conducted virtually, which means applicants will only have to make one trip to Dallas to complete the final steps in the hiring process.

Licensed law enforcement officers from other states may become licensed in Texas without repeating the police academy.

A $70,000 starting base salary in Dallas is equivalent to approximately $106,000 in New York City.  And, for a lateral applicant with 15 or more years of experience, the starting base salary of $103,421 in Dallas is equivalent to approximately $166,116 in New York.

Additionally, affordable housing in good neighborhoods is plentiful in the Dallas metro area.  Plus, Texas has no State income tax, as well as a lower sales tax rate and lower property tax rate than New York.  So, you keep more of the money you earn.

Also, in Texas there is strong support for law enforcement by both the public and the local and State governments.
