2024 Annual NYPD Det. Shantay Neal-Baker Community Empowerment Day

September 21 @ 10:00 am

The 2024 Annual NYPD Det. Shantay Neal-Baker Community Empowerment Day, also known as “Tay Day,” will take place on September 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Pink Area of Cunningham Park, 196-10 Union Turnpike, Fresh Meadows, Queens, NY 11366.

Shantay Neal-Baker was a dedicated NYPD Detective who passed away in the line of duty from COVID-19. In her honor, “Tay Day” is a celebration of empowerment in the community she served so diligently. This event is not just a day of remembrance, but also a day of giving back to the community, something that Det. Neal-Baker was deeply passionate about.

There is also a short “walk for the cure” in conjunction with the Lupus Foundation of America with the goal of eradicating lupus.

The focus of “Tay Day” is community empowerment with a special focus on literacy and mental wellness initiatives. It will offer free CPR training courtesy of the FDNY, book giveaways, reading circles, STEM activities in the park, and much more! Det. Neal-Baker’s life was defined by her service to others, and it is in this spirit that her friends and family come together each year for “Tay Day.”

Det. Shantay Neal-Baker was not only a committed public servant, but also a Lupus warrior. Despite her diagnosis, she became a national advocate for the Lupus Foundation, raising awareness and funds for research into this challenging autoimmune disease. There will be a short “Walk for the Cure” during “Tay Day.”
