Police Officer Myron Parker of Bronx Narcotics was killed on August 20, 1987, when he was struck by a driver on the Major Deegan Expressway. P.O. Parker was off-duty at the time, but taking police action investigating a previous accident involving an intoxicated driver who struck Parker’s brother’s vehicle. When Officer Parker approached the car to investigate, the driver accelerated and crushed him. P.O. Parker then flipped over the concrete divider and was killed by an oncoming vehicle. The perpetrator who caused his death fled the scene, but was caught by responding Officers when his car crashed into yet another vehicle. P.O. Myron Parker was only 26 years old and had been on the force since January 25, 1982. He was promoted to Detective posthumously by then-Police Commissioner Benjamin Ward.
On May 20, 2023, a street renaming ceremony in Det. Parker’s honor was held at 103rd Street and 34th Avenue in North Corona, Queens near where Parker had lived at the time of his death.
