Det. Second Grade William J. Keating was born in White Plains, New York and appointed to the force on January 26, 1982. He was promoted to Detective on August 31, 1989, and earned second grade on December 22, 1997. He retired out of the Joint Organized Crime Task Force on January 25, 2002. Because of illnesses he contracted as a result of his work on the rescue and recovery from the WTC attacks, he died on June 8, 2022. He was survived by his spouse of more than 33 years and two children, five siblings, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Known for his quick wit and infectious laugh, Det. Keating was passionate about golf and traveled to various courses just to engage in his favorite past-time.
