DEA CONTRACTS
The DEA’s latest contract ran from April 1, 2019, until May 31, 2022. The Union is currently entering a new round of collective bargaining.
Constitution and Bylaws
The DEA was formed in 1917: first as a fraternal organization, then as a labor union. We incorporated in the City and State of New York in December of 1925, and formally gained our independent collective bargaining status in August of 1963 to act as the exclusive representative for active and retired New York Police Department Detectives: negotiating wages, hours, working conditions, health benefits, and pensions. We separated our health benefits operation from the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association in 1979.
The DEA’s Constitution and By-Laws may be amended by the Board of Officers, in conjunction with a vote by the Delegate body, in order to stay relevant with the changing needs of the union’s membership of approximately 18,000 active and retired NYPD Detectives.
