On February 16, 2021, there was a virtual meeting with the heads of various police unions to introduce ABLE training, which is going to be rolled out to the NYPD. ABLE stands for “Active Bystander for Law Enforcement,” and it’s to discuss “MOS bystanders’ intervention” (i.e., when an MOS witnesses excessive force, misconduct, or mistakes on the job made by a fellow MOS). The training consists of two eight-hour classes that include case studies and experiments in bystander apathy. DEA VP Paul Morrison participated for the DEA.
