Re: Shooting of two Police Officers in Brooklyn
Date: December 21, 2014
As you are already aware, on Saturday, December 20, 2014, two uniformed Police Officers were ambushed and killed while sitting in their RMP. Hopefully, this was an isolated incident, but the fact is that a strong anti-police climate exists in our City and across the country, which places all of us in peril. What occurred could easily have happened to Detectives or any other rank in the NYPD.
Therefore, reminding you to be on “high alert” is an understatement. All of our Detectives must proceed with extreme caution while investigating cases and engaging with the public. Please be cognizant of all those around you at all times, because the real threat may not even come from those with whom you are engaged. Cowards, such as yesterday’s killer, strike when you are distracted and vulnerable.
Your safety is paramount, so wear your bullet-resistant vests. Many of our members who are assigned to Narcotics and Warrants already operate in larger groups; however, Detectives assigned to Precinct Detective Squads and similarly sized units should operate in teams of three when possible until we better assess the threat that exists against us.
Fraternally,
Michael Palladino and the DEA Board of Officers
