Summations took place on Monday, October 29, 2018, in Manhattan Supreme Court in the case of Akram Joudeh, the perpetrator who attacked and wounded Det. Brian O’Donnell with a machete in midtown Manhattan on September 15, 2016. The jury deliberated approximately 15 minutes and came back with a verdict finding Joudeh guilty on all counts.
On Thursday, December 6th in Manhattan Supreme Court, Part 51, Akram Joudeh was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison on various charges, including Attempted Murder and Assault One.
Michael J. Palladino, President of the DEA, issued the following statement —
“We are obviously pleased with Mr. Joudeh’s conviction. His trial was a desperate attempt to evade justice and we anxiously await his sentencing on December 6th. What happened to Detective O’Donnell off-duty is a clear indication of how dedicated and brave the members of the NYPD are.”
