Det. Michael Smith was our first member to be hospitalized with COVID-19 last year. He had a very long and arduous illness and was in the hospital for 123 days. Smith has been on the job for 35 years, since 1986. He spent 123 days in the hospital, and much of that time in a coma, including two months on a ventilator.
