Dear Ms. Middlebrook:
On June 15, 1984, New York Police Department Police Officer Juan Andino was on foot patrol on Third Avenue near 149th Street in The Bronx when he was approached by a shop keeper who said a man entered his store, smashed a display case, and stole a pair of eyeglass frames. As Officer Andino accompanied the retailer back to his store, the shopkeeper spotted the subject wearing the eyeglass frames. P.O. Andino brought suspect, Lee Ernest Walker, back to the store to discuss the allegations. When Andino asked the shopkeeper if he wanted to press charges, Walker attacked the Officer. In the struggle, Walker grabbed Andino’s gun and fired three rounds, hitting Andino twice in the head. Hearing the shots, another Police Officer ran into the store and shot Walker. Walker was then placed under arrest. Walker, was tried and convicted of Murder in the First Degree and sentenced to 25-years-to-life. He resides in Attica Correctional Facility and is currently seeking parole.
P.O. Andino died shortly after being shot in the head by Lee Ernest Walker. Andino had been a member of the Police Department for 11 years, faithfully serving the citizens of New York. He was assigned to the 40th Precinct. There has never been any parole from the pain and suffering experienced by his family, friends, or colleagues since his sudden and needless death.
I urge the Parole Division of the State of New York to deny the parole petition of Lee Ernest Walker. Walker lost his right to freedom the day he grabbed a New York City Police Officer’s gun and opened fired. I believe that violent, thoughtless perpetrators like Walker belong in prison for life. I urge the State of New York to deny his parole. Thank you for considering my position.
