Political Action & NYS Public Safety Alliance

The last meeting of the New York State Public Safety Alliance was held March 25, 2026, both in person at the DEA and on Zoom. Topics discussed included the upcoming elections, and the bills we have put forth asking for a carved-out perimeter (25-feet) from protestors when police/fire/EMS are doing their jobs. Given recent incidents, including assaults, snowballs, and other altercations where members of the public tried to interfere with public servants doing their jobs, this is necessary for the safety and well-being of our various union members.

Here’s the backstory: On January 22, 2026, the DEA hosted an introductory meeting at Russo’s on the Bay of an organization we proposed: the New York State Public Safety Alliance. More than 400 attendees from approximately 100 associations attended. Speakers included Frank Siller of Tunnel to Towers, Mick McHale of NAPO, Michael O’Meara of PCNY, Scott Munro, Benny Boscio, Jr. of NYC COBA, Louis Civello of the Suffolk County PBA, and John Davidson of the Buffalo PBA. Topics of discussion included such issues as the “Keep Police Radio Public Act,” a NYS legislative push to prevent police radio from being encrypted by Police Departments; the NYC Council-proposed bill that would require the NYPD to make accessible to the CCRB in real time footage from body-worn cameras; signing bonuses — ranging from $5,000 to $75,000 — which are designed to boost law enforcement recruitment and are being offered by some states, cities, and towns across the U.S.; locally our issues with 50-A; issues regarding the Tier 2-A Pension; and chiefly the need to remain bi-partisan when issuing political endorsements in order to get our proposed legislation passed in Albany.
