Retired Det. First Grade Katrina Brownlee Subject of “48 Hours”

On Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 10:00 p.m. EST (Eastern Standard Time), CBS News’ “48 Hours” will be airing its entire show about First Grade Det. Katrina C. Brownlee, who retired from the force this past June 30, 2021. Det. Brownlee retired out of the Intelligence Division’s Executive Protection Unit where she guarded the Mayor of New York City for the past eight years. It was only after she retired that Det. Brownlee went public with her remarkable life story about the abuse she suffered as a young woman with a boyfriend who shot her ten times, crippling her in 1993.

Det. Brownlee persevered and, once she was able to walk again, joined the New York Police Department. She graduated the Academy on July 1, 2001. She earned her gold shield in 2005, second grade in 2013, and first grade in 2017, all the while never revealing her incredible past. Det. Brownlee was the subject of a lengthy New York Times article, originally published October 13, 2021, and followed by coverage in other news outlets.
